Changing a kiln from Single-Phase to Three-Phase power

In this video, we demonstrate how to change a single-phase kiln into a three-phase L&L Easy-Fire or School-Master kiln. 

Although this video is specific to these kiln series, the basic principle applies to most 280 and 240-volt kilns. Kilns with higher amperage will not have the cord, but all 208 and 240-volt kilns can do the same easy change at the terminal block.

How to check the operation of a control transformer on an L&L automatic kiln. Applies to all automatic kilns that are not 480 volts. The control transformer reduces the incoming line voltage from 240, 208 or 220 volts to 24 volts for the control and 12 volts for the relays. See this page for more detail.

  • When changing a power or control relay in an Easy-Fire, Easy-Fire XT, School-Master, or eQuad-Pro Kiln, be sure to keep the wires in the right sequence.
  • The configuration is similar to a Jupiter panel or as a control relay in a DaVinci or Easy-Load panel.
  • When performing this maintenance, make sure the kiln is unplugged or locked out and tagged out at the circuit breaker or fused disconnect switch.
