Hidden Menu Overview: Advanced Kiln Control Features
This video walks you through the hidden menu in our kiln controller—an advanced settings area designed for diagnostics and specialized adjustments. While most users won’t need these options for everyday firing, understanding them can help with troubleshooting and system checks.
Accessing the Hidden Menu
To enter the hidden menu, press OTHER → 4 → 4 → 3. The first option displayed is Number of Thermocouples, which determines whether your kiln operates in single-zone or three-zone control.
Selecting 1 sets the kiln to single-zone control.
Selecting 3 restores three-zone control.
Changing the number of thermocouples also affects which settings appear in the regular menu—for example, the lag setting is not shown in single-zone mode.
Additional Advanced Options
The hidden menu includes several technical features (all listed in the instruction manual). Most are intended for advanced users or technicians, but one tool is helpful for everyone:
Diagnostic Mode for Element Testing
Under OTHER → 4 → 4 → 3 → Diagnostic, you can activate a built-in test that briefly powers each heating zone.
The controller cycles through Output 1, 2, and 3, turning elements on long enough for you to verify that each circuit is working correctly.
By carefully opening the kiln (with proper precautions), you can visually confirm that the elements are glowing and firing as they should.
This diagnostic feature is extremely useful for identifying circuit issues, verifying element function, and ensuring the kiln is firing safely and efficiently.
