EFL Front-Loading Kiln Assembly Guide (EFL 2635)
This video provides a step-by-step walkthrough for assembling an L&L Kilns EFL Series Front-Loading Kiln, using the EFL 2635 model as an example. The kiln ships in several components, including the kiln body, leg assemblies, and the control panel. This guide highlights the key steps to get your kiln safely installed and ready for electrical hookup.
1. Unpacking the Kiln
Begin by placing the kiln in its installation area. Remove the plastic wrap from the kiln body while someone supports the door. Take out the internal support box and foam—these are for shipping only and may be discarded.
2. Installing the Kiln Door
Remove the factory-installed bolts at the hinge points. Lift the door into place and rest it on the lower brackets. Align the hinges with the bolt holes.
- Ensure the hinge bushings sit flush between the door and brackets.
- If gaps appear, use the included washers to eliminate spacing.
Secure the hinge bolts, open the door, and remove the temporary door-support brackets. Close the door using the quick-release clamps.
3. Attaching the Leg Assemblies
Raise the kiln slightly higher than the leg length using a pallet jack or forklift. Attach the four corner legs—each sits in a recessed opening in the shipping pallet. Remove packaging as needed to access rear leg locations. Install the remaining legs and lower the kiln to the floor. Dismantle and remove the pallet.
Depending on your EFL model, it may use fixed legs (as shown) or optional casters.
4. Ventilation System Installation
Attach the vent box to the underside of the kiln, positioning the exhaust tube toward the rear cutout. Fasten using the four mounting holes. Connect flexible ducting from the exhaust tube to your ventilation fan system.
5. Control Panel Assembly
Remove the two screws at the top of the element box. Slide the control panel into the slotted grooves so it can rest securely during wiring.
- Connect the green ground wire from the control panel to the grounding location.
- Match each labeled electrical connector with its corresponding label—fully seat all spade connectors.
- Tuck wires into the panel, then reinstall the top screws to secure the panel.
6. Connecting the Auto Shut-Off Switch
Install the door’s auto shut-off mechanism beneath the lowest latch using the four mounting screws. Test for an audible “click” to ensure engagement. Further adjustments are covered in a separate video.
Final Step: Electrical Hookup
Once assembly is complete, have a qualified electrician connect your kiln to a properly fused electrical circuit.
