How to Fire - General instruction panels for Dura-Fire.

  1. Very Important! Be sure that the adjustments on the kiln-sitter have been properly set. See the kiln-sitter manual for details.
  2. Load the kiln evenly and place a cone pack so it can be seen when looking through the center peephole. A cone pack is a series of three cones set in a line that you look at from the side; your target cone in the center, one cone cooler in front of it, and one cone hotter behind it.
  3. Set the kiln-sitter timer to no more than a half-hour longer than the kiln takes to fire. Or set it to maximum time if you are not sure how long it takes. Keep track of how long the firing takes so you can set the timer closer to the real firing time next time.
  4. Set one cone higher than you fire to onto the kiln-sitter tube assembly inside the kiln while holding the kiln-sitter
