Firing: How do I remove a section from my kiln with 4 or more sections?
- These instructions apply to some Jupiter and DaVinci models.
- Remove the lid. Open it first to disengage the springs. Photograph the parts before doing this to ensure they go back in the right order and orientation.
- Unscrew the yellow thermocouple wires from the thermocouples. Unplug all the section power cords from the control panel.
- Before removing sections, label them from top to bottom, starting with #1 for the top section, so you can maintain the order when you restack them.
- Remove down to the # of sections you desire, prioritizing maintaining all sections with thermocouples, and put them back in the same order.
- For a DaVinci, you'll need to slide the spring tubes (for older versions) and/or the vertical angle struts down by the appropriate amount according to the # of sections you removed.
- Re-set the lid and attach the hardware and springs as before. ENSURE THAT THE LID HINGE BAR IS BIASED TOWARD THE BOTTOM OF THE SLOT THAT IT SITS IN. Set this position with the lid closed. This ensures the lid brick does not rub on the top section brick.
- Reattach the thermocouple wires to the thermocouples, noting polarity. For Type-K, the red goes to "-" or red marked terminal and the yellow goes to "+" on the TC connection blocks.
- TC #1 is for the top section, #2 the middle section, #3 the bottom.
- If you started with 3 thermocouples, and have now downsized to only using 2, you will need to adjust that in the controller software by setting the # of zones to 2 instead of 3.
- The kiln section power cords should be plugged in in order from top to bottom, but skipped the outlets that correspond to the sections you removed.
- Two or more people may be needed at various steps.
