Here at L&L, we’re always looking for ways to make our kilns stronger, safer, and easier to use. One of our latest improvements is a redesigned lid and counterbalance system for DaVinci kilns.

The new system uses a worm-driven hand winch to raise and lower the lid from the center. This provides smooth, controlled movement while distributing the lifting force evenly across the lid. The winch allows the lid to open more than 80 degrees, making loading more accessible.
Because the lid now lifts from the center, traditional lid handles are no longer needed. This helps reduce twisting and uneven lifting, which can contribute to premature wear over time.
We’ve also redesigned the lid frame for added strength and durability. The new lid channels improve rigidity, allow for better expansion and contraction during heating and cooling, and make it possible for the lid band clamps to be tightened down on the brick if needed.
The winch is geared for slow, steady hand operation, giving users better control when opening and closing the lid. Some professional and industrial users may choose to operate it with a cordless drill for faster movement, though hand-crank operation is recommended for most studios and schools.
A safety chain is included and should be clipped in place whenever the lid is open. While the winch is designed to hold the lid at any height, the safety chain adds an extra layer of security.
Overall, this update improves strength, control, safety, and long-term durability while making DaVinci kilns easier and more predictable to operate.
