480 Volt Option
Available on these Kiln Series
Technical Details for DaVinci and Jupiter JD2900 Kilns
- Elements are 277-volt special elements. This means the voltage potential in the kiln is much safer than it would be if the elements were running at 480 volts.
- Elements are wired in a Star (Wye) Configuration to get 277 volts at the elements.
- Power supply does not require a neutral (See wiring diagram on back for typical hook up information).
- Watts are the same as 240-volt kilns. Amperage goes down.
- An optional control panel is a special heavy-duty industrial NEMA 1 control panel. The panel is floor standing on an included stand. It typically sits on the right side of the kiln. See the details for pricing. If the NEMA 1 panel is not ordered than our standard control panel is used.
- Each kiln section is separately branch fused.
- If a DynaTrol is ordered it is of the “handheld” type that we use on the DaVinci in its own separate control box and this is typically hung on the front of the panel.
- If a manual kiln with a Kiln Sitter is ordered the Sitter breaks the 120-volt circuit of the control contactors.
- An Orton Kiln Sitter is available as an optional back up on automatic versions of this control system. This breaks the 120-volt circuit of separate back up contactors.
- A lighted “On/Off” switch is included.
- Kiln sections are “hard wired” (meaning that there are no plugs and receptacles) from the sections to the control panel with flexible “SO” cord (typically 72” long each).
- An optional fused disconnect switch may be added to the control panel. This allows you to bring power directly to the panel from your electrical grid. (Normally you would need to have a fused disconnect box within 15 feet of our control panel).
- Most 480 Volt kilns are listed to UL499 standards.

Technical Details for Hercules and Easy-Load Front-Loading Kilns
- Elements are 240 volt elements wired in series. This means the voltage potential in the kiln is much safer than it would be if the elements were running at 480 volts.
- Power supply does not require a neutral (See wiring diagram on back for typical hook up information).
- Watts are the same as 240-volt kilns. Amperage goes down.
- The control panel can be either a standard panel or a special heavy-duty industrial NEMA 1 control panel (for an extra charge). The NEMA 1 panel is floor standing on an included stand. It typically sits on the right side of the kiln.
- Each kiln section is separately branch fused.
- An Orton Kiln Sitter is available as an optional back up on automatic versions of this control system. This breaks the 120-volt circuit of separate back up contactors.
