Corrosion Resistant Case

The Ceramic Process Is Corrosive

  • Kilns create corrosive conditions from heat and chemicals that come from clay (for instance sulfur in clay makes sulfuric acid when heated with water vapor).

The Cases Of Sectional Kilns Are Stainless Steel

  • All sectional L&L kilns feature stainless steel cases. All screws used to in the case construction are stainless steel - not zinc or cadmium plated carbon steel which will eventually rot under these tough conditions.

The New Spring Hinge Is All Stainless Steel

  • The hinge parts are made of heavy-gauge stainless steel.

Stands Are Aluminized Steel

  • The stands of most L&L kilns are made from aluminized steel which resists high temperatures.
  • The DaVinci stand and counterbalance assembly is made from heavy welded angle iron and is powder-coated. On top of the stand rests a support plate of aluminized steel.

Cases Of Front-Loading Kilns Are Powder-Coated Heavy Fabricated Gauge Steel

  • Unlike some of the other front-loading kilns on the market L&L only uses heavy gauge (1/8" thick steel) on both its Hercules and Easy-Load front-loading kilns.
  • This very thickness is your insurance policy against premature failure of the case.
  • The cases are powder-coated which provides a very good barrier to protect the steel from the corrosive atmospheres.

Recommended Ventilation

Note: Proper ventilation of your kiln will also help prevent corrosion. Even stainless steel will corrode under some of the conditions that can be present in a kiln. We highly recommend installing a down-draft type vent (the Vent-Sure) to get the corrosive fumes out of the kiln. A room vent and/or a hood vent does not extract the corrosive fumes from a kiln.
